Volunteer Tutors Needed to Help Adults Learn English and Math

The Adult Literacy Project at Waubonsee Community College is seeking volunteers to tutor adult learners in math, reading, writing and speaking English.

Waubonsee Names Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Members

Two Waubonsee Community College adjunct faculty members have been selected as Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Members for 2018. Andy Clements, an instructor in the Business and Career Technologies Division, and Randy Sater, an instructor in the Workforce Development Division, were selected for their teaching excellence.

Waubonsee Recognizes Academic Excellence

Each semester, Waubonsee Community College recognizes academic excellence by hosting a ceremony for students to be inducted into honor societies. This semesters Joint Honor Society Induction Ceremony was held on Feb. 25 in the Academic and Professional Center on the Sugar Grove Campus.

Scheduled College Phone System Upgrade on March 12

The Waubonsee Community College IT Department will conduct a scheduled upgrade to the college's phone system on Monday March 12. The service will begin at 6 p.m. and is scheduled to end by midnight. 

 

Waubonsee Appoints Dean for Academic Support

The Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees appointed Anita Moore to the position of Dean for Academic Support. The appointment was made at the board’s regularly scheduled meeting on Jan. 17. Moore assumed the duties of the position on Feb. 21.

Nominations Sought for Waubonsee Distinguished Awards

Nominations are now being sought for Waubonsee Community College’s 2018 Distinguished Contributor and Distinguished Alumnus awards. Nominations must be received by Friday, March 30. This year, awards will be presented to the recipients at the college’s commencement ceremonies on May 12.   

Waubonsee Hosts Hmong America Exhibition

Waubonsee Community College, in partnership with Northern Illinois University’s Pick Museum of Anthropology, will host “In/Visibility: Hmong America and the Art of Storytelling.” The exhibition will feature first-person reflections, textiles and artwork by Aurora native and Waubonsee alumna J. Tshab Her. The presentation considers how Hmong life has changed since refugees first entered the United States in the 1970s and what it means to be Hmong American today.

Waubonsee Offers Summer Study Abroad in Cambodia

Study abroad programs are great opportunities for students to build the skills necessary to succeed in the global economy. This summer, Waubonsee Community College is offering a study abroad program in Cambodia that will give students experience in service learning, community engagement and enriching learning experiences as part of the immersion in Cambodian culture.
