Two Waubonsee Community College adjunct faculty members have been selected as Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Members for 2018. Andy Clements, an instructor in the Business and Career Technologies Division, and Randy Sater, an instructor in the Workforce Development Division, were selected for their teaching excellence. Both were recognized at the spring semester faculty orientation on March 1.

Clements has taught at Waubonsee for more than 16 years. Currently, he teaches Introduction to Business (BUS100) and Introduction to Entrepreneurship (BUS140). As a 1999 graduate of Waubonsee and a long-time instructor, Clements has strong and deep connections to the college.

“It’s a family here. We develop lifelong relationships with students, the faculty and the institution,” he said.

He also recognizes the intelligence of the students at Waubonsee.

“We have really smart students here. They know a good value when they see it. Waubonsee is, without a doubt, the best value in higher education.”

Sater has been a National Safety Council certified driver safety instructor at Waubonsee for 26 years and he served as a law enforcement officer for 32 years. He is a passionate advocate for traffic safety. In 2017 he delivered 24 defensive driving courses at seven different locations as part of the Court Supervision Program in Kane, Kendall and DeKalb Counties.

Using curriculum from the National Safety Council, Sater teaches DDC 4, a four-hour defensive driving program, and Alive at 25®, a program that teaches younger drivers about personal responsibility on the roads.

“We all share the roads. The goal is to get there safely and efficiently,” he said.

Adjunct faculty members are nominated for the award for their demonstration of quality instruction, commitment to student success and their contributions to the college’s credit and noncredit divisions. Those selected for the award represent the best of Waubonsee and demonstrate the quality of instruction at the college.

NOTE: This article as originally posted said that Andy Clements graduated from Waubonsee in 1997. That was incorrect and has been changed to 1999.
