Waubonsee Names Featured Alumnus: Abel Perez

Being a first-generation college student can be daunting. Being a first-generation college graduate is exhilarating. Abel Perez knows this first hand. Now he uses his experience to help and encourage young people today to work hard and better themselves. For this, Perez has been recognized as a Waubonsee Student Success: Featured Alumnus.

Waubonsee Hosts Signing Day for Automotive Students

Each academic year in November, December and April, many colleges with football and basketball programs celebrate their incoming student-athletes when the students sign a letter of intent. Colleges often host an event that makes the athletes feel like they are part of the team, even before they start classes. At Waubonsee, that happens not just with student-athletes, but with student-auto technicians.

Waubonsee Recognizes Academic Excellence

Each semester, Waubonsee Community College recognizes academic excellence by hosting a ceremony for students to be inducted into honor societies. This semesters Joint Honor Society Induction Ceremony was held on Feb. 25 in the Academic and Professional Center on the Sugar Grove Campus.

Waubonsee Names Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Members

Two Waubonsee Community College adjunct faculty members have been selected as Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Members for 2018. Andy Clements, an instructor in the Business and Career Technologies Division, and Randy Sater, an instructor in the Workforce Development Division, were selected for their teaching excellence.

Rusty Visits Waubonsee

Part of the college experience is meeting new and interesting people. Some of the people you meet in college can be called characters. Sometimes you meet a real character.

Rusty, the mascot for the Chicago Steel hockey team, visited the Sugar Grove Campus on Wednesday, Feb. 21 to hang out with students.

Waubonsee Students Learn an Essential Weather-Related Trade

With January comes cold weather in the Chicago area. This year the cold has been extreme with several days of sub-zero temperatures across the region. This has made trained and certified heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) mechanics and installers some of the most important people in many communities. Fortunately, Waubonsee Community College provides opportunities for people to get that training and certification.

Waubonsee Offers Opportunities for Auto Tech Students

It used to be the case that people could learn to work on cars simply by tinkering with their own and by talking to others with more experience in automobile repair. That level of expertise could potentially lead to a successful career in auto services. Those days no longer exist. Now, even an entry-level job in automotive repair requires specialized certification. It is for that reason that the Waubonsee Automotive Technology Program exists.
