Waubonsee Student Trustee Receives Coca-Cola Academic Team Scholarship

Waubonsee Community College Student Trustee Juan Chiu, of Aurora, has been named a 2023 Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar. He will receive a $1,250 scholarship. 

Waubonsee Vice President Selected for the Aspen Institute’s Rising Presidents Fellowship

The Aspen Institute College Excellence Program (Aspen) has announced that Dr. Jamal Scott, Vice President of Strategy and Community Development at Waubonsee Community College, is one of 35 leaders selected for the 2023-2024 class of the Aspen Rising Presidents Fellowship. This program, delivered in collaboration with the Stanford Educational Leadership Initiative, prepares the next generation of community college presidents to transform institutions to achieve higher and more equitable levels of student success.

Waubonsee Community College, in partnership with Northern Trust, will host a Cybersecurity Engineering Apprenticeship information session at the Plano Campus on Tuesday, April 11 from 6 to 7 p.m. The session is free and open to the public and will also be available via Zoom for those who cannot attend in-person.

Waubonsee Community College will host an open house at its Sugar Grove Campus on Saturday, April 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. The event is family-friendly, free, and open to the public.

Waubonsee Honors Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage in April

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, observed from May 1 through May 31, honors the many contributions and accomplishments of Asian Americans, Pacific Islander Americans, and Native Hawaiians. During the month of April, Waubonsee Community College will celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month to pay tribute before the spring semester ends to the generations of Asian and Pacific Islanders who have enriched our history. This month-long programming is free and open to the public.  

Women Pursuing Manufacturing Fields

Women’s History Month is the perfect opportunity to honor women who work in the manufacturing field. Women make up 47% of the total workforce but they only represent 30% of the workforce in the manufacturing industry. Women in this field work hard and they are outnumbered, which can be challenging. However, for those who have the passion, the opportunities are endless and the payoff is worth it.
