Women’s History Month is the perfect opportunity to honor women who work in the manufacturing field. Women make up 47% of the total workforce but they only represent 30% of the workforce in the manufacturing industry. Women in this field work hard and they are outnumbered, which can be challenging. However, for those who have the passion, the opportunities are endless and the payoff is worth it. 

Waubonsee Community College alumnus Javier Galvez never imagined he'd return to Waubonsee’s Sugar Grove Campus with so much influence just three years after graduating. As Toyota's Field Technical Specialist for Central and Southern Illinois and Northwestern Indiana, Galvez ignites futures for students enrolled in Waubonsee's Automotive Technology Program as an employer partner. 

The Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees has approved tuition rates for the 2023-2024 academic year. Beginning with the fall 2023 semester, the college’s in-district and online tuition rate will increase from $132 to $135 per credit hour, which represents a 2.27 percent increase. The student fee will remain the same at $8 per credit hour.

Waubonsee Community College’s Adult Education Program plays a critical role in helping non-native English speakers and newly arrived individuals unlock brighter economic futures for themselves and their families through English language instruction, Illinois high school diploma preparation, and adult academic skills enhancement. 

How do we end up choosing our profession? Why does someone become a teacher or an auto mechanic? Oftentimes it is because, from an early age, they were exposed to someone in a specific profession, such as a parent, family friend, or relative. 

I am humbled and honored to have been selected as the fifth president of Waubonsee Community College, an organization with a long history of service to and collaboration with a vibrant and thriving community. I have learned a lot in my first month as President, and I have more to learn!

In honor of Women’s History Month, Waubonsee Community College will host events in March to commemorate the significant contributions women have made to advancing all levels of society. We invite members of our community to join us for programming that celebrates women who tell our stories of trials and triumphs. All events are free and open to the public. 

Seven Waubonsee Community College students have received a Gene Haas Foundation Scholarship, making it possible for them to reach their educational and career goals to create products of the future with high-tech tools.
