Shawn Ballee

Shawn Ballee, Assistant Professor of Industrial Systems Technology at Waubonsee Community College, has been selected to the National Subject Matter Expert Panel for the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC).

The MSSC is an industry-led training, assessment and certification system focused on helping students develop the core skills and knowledge needed by U.S. employers of production and material handling workers.

Ballee will serve as a National Subject Matter Expert Panel member on mechanical power and fluid power transmission and electrical controls in manufacturing.

As a panel member, Ballee will leverage his extensive experience in manufacturing processes, power generation and education, as well as an authorized safety trainer for MSSC and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), to review national certification standards, ensuring they properly reflect the needs of technicians in the field.

“Working in today’s manufacturing companies requires not only basic skills, but high technology skills that most applicants do not have,” said Ballee.

Ballee said he and Waubonsee will help MSSC accomplish its goals to train and certify front-line manufacturing workers by partnering with local high schools on dual credit programs and promoting MSSC certification to students at Waubonsee.
