Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association

IAODAPCA is the credentialing board for AODA Counselors in the state of Illinois. The Addictions Counseling Certificate of Achievement Program at Waubonsee Community College is accredited by this organization.

Illinois Alcohol and Drug Dependence Association

Organized in 1967, IADDA was the group that originally sponsored the creation of alcoholism counselors in Illinois. IADDA members include prevention and treatment programs, as well as interested individuals. IADDA advocates at the governmental level (state and national) representing the addiction community. IADDA is also the sponsoring agency for the Operation Snowball and the Illinois Teenage Institute.

NIDA, a part of the Department of Health and Human Services, supports over 85 % of the world's research on the health aspects of drug abuse and addiction. This site is part of their mission to effectively transfer scientific data to policymakers and drug abuse practitioners.

NIAAA is a part of the Department of Health and Human Services. NIAAA supports and conducts biomedical and behavioral research on the causes, consequences, treatment, and prevention of alcoholism and alcohol- related problems. This site has a wealth of information on alcohol abuse and alcoholism for the general public as well as professionals.

National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors

NAADAC is a national organization representing addiction counselors. Membership in this organization helps support addiction counselors issues at the federal level. NAADAC members receive the magazine "The Counselor" and can participate in a group malpractice insurance program.
