Nominations are currently being accepted for Waubonsee Community College’s 2025 Distinguished Contributor Award. Nominations must be received by August 29, 2025, to be considered for this year.

Waubonsee to Launch Free, After-School Care Program at Aurora Downtown Campus

As part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening the student experience, Waubonsee Community College, in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Central Illinois, will launch a free, on-campus after-school care program for children of its students at the Aurora Downtown Campus, 18 S. River St.

Waubonsee Announces 2025 Outstanding Faculty Member

Each year, Waubonsee Community College names an Outstanding Faculty Member. This award recognizes faculty who exemplify the college’s mission by enriching the lives of our students, colleagues, and community, creating opportunities to explore new passions, share knowledge, and foster a culture of inclusivity. This year’s Outstanding Faculty Member is Dr. Lisa Fozio-Thielk, Professor of Psychology. Dr. Fozio-Thielk has served Waubonsee as a full-time instructor since 2005.

Waubonsee Launches Four Fall Programs to Help Local Entrepreneurs Start and Scale Their Businesses

Waubonsee Community College will once again offer four cohorts of the Business Growth Academy for existing and aspiring business owners in the community through a partnership between Waubonsee’s Education and Workforce Development department and the Illinois Small Business Development Center at Waubonsee. Business Growth Academy and its Spanish-language counterpart, Academia de Negocios, are designed for business owners who have been in operation for at least two years, are generating revenue, and are looking to scale up their business. Each session will run for ten weeks, with Business Growth Academy offered Wednesday evenings, beginning Sept. 17, at the Sugar Grove Campus, and Academia de Negocios offered Thursday evenings, beginning Sept. 18, at the Aurora Downtown Campus, located at 18 S. River St.

Waubonsee Launches Industrial Maintenance Program to Close Region’s Skills Gap

Waubonsee Community College hosted a cross-industry event at the Plano Campus on Wednesday, July 9, to launch a new microcredentialing program that will open for students this fall. “At the Crossroads of Education and Industry” Summit drew more than 60 local manufacturing professionals, educators, and industry experts to learn more about the program, Waubonsee’s Plano Campus, and the machinery students will have access to for hands-on learning.

Waubonsee Appoints Dr. Kimberly Chavis as Provost and Vice President of Teaching, Learning, and Student Success

Waubonsee Community College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Kimberly Chavis, of Plainfield, as the Provost and Vice President of Teaching, Learning, and Student Success. Dr. Chavis has been serving in the role on an interim basis since January 2025.
