The Waubonsee Community College Foundation will host its annual Waubonsee Trail Run on Saturday, May 30 at 9 a.m. on the Sugar Grove Campus. This year, students in Waubonsee’s Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CAD) program designed and created the race medals – applying their skills in a real-world project that connects student learning with a long-standing community tradition.

“One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is seeing students apply what they've learned in the classroom to a tangible project that benefits our community,” said Randy Hines, Associate Professor of Computer Aided Design and Drafting. “This collaboration allows students to showcase their technical skills while fostering a sense of pride and connection to the college.”

Proceeds from the Trail Run benefit the Waubonsee Foundation Scholarship Program. Each year, the Foundation raises funds to provide student scholarships. The Foundation provided 426 scholarship awards totaling more than $438,000 for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Community members, friends, and family members of runners are welcome to attend this event. Registration fees for the 5K are $40; registration fees for the 10K are $50, with discounts for Waubonsee students, alumni, and children 12 and under. Race participants will receive an event t-shirt, food truck voucher and sponsor giveaways.

This year’s food truck vendors include Tasty T’s, Santiago’s Tacos, and Foxy’s Ice Cream, all of whom will have treats available for purchase by cash, card, or race participant vouchers.
