Representative Kifowit Honors Dr. Sobek

Last night, at the April board meeting, Illinois State Representative Stephanie Kifowit recognized Dr. Christine Sobek, President of Waubonsee Community College, on behalf of the Illinois General Assembly, with a special House Resolution on her 20th year serving as president.   

The 102nd Illinois General Assembly passed House Resolution 0618 on February 15 to honor and congratulate Dr. Sobek for 20 years of service as president of Waubonsee Community College and for her many contributions to the community.    

Dr. Sobek became the fourth president of Waubonsee Community College on July 1, 2001; in this role, she is responsible for the overall leadership of the college, which serves more than 14,000 students each year, employs approximately 1,100 employees, and provides educational programs and services across four campus locations. 

Dr. Sobek has more than 40 years of community college administrative experience; she served in several administrative roles at Waubonsee Community College prior to her appointment as president, including provost from 2000 to 2001, executive vice president for Educational Affairs from 1997 to 2000, assistant vice president for Instruction from 1993 to 1997, assistant vice president for Student Development from 1991 to 1993, and dean of Student Development from 1989 to 1991.  

"I sincerely appreciate the Illinois General Assembly and State Representative Kifowit for their efforts to pass this resolution. Over the years, State Representative Kifowit has never wavered in her support of Waubonsee Community College and our students," said Dr. Sobek.    

State Representative Kifowit thanked Dr. Sobek for her commitment to the community and the State of Illinois and wished her continued success.
