Classic Car Curator

This course is designed to preserve and share the historical knowledge and mechanical skills associated with vintage and classic automobiles. Ideal for enthusiasts who view vehicles as more than transportation, the course combines elements of vehicle history, preservation, valuation, and maintenance. Participants will learn how to appraise collectible vehicles, establish historical provenance, maintain and preserve vehicle value, and perform basic service procedures on vintage automotive systems. Topics include vehicle acquisition, storage considerations, detailing, restoration decisions, carbureted fuel systems, distributor-based ignition systems, and pre-electronic electrical systems.

Note: Please bring a pair of safety glasses and wear clothing and closed-toe shoes appropriate for working in an automotive shop. Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to: • Evaluate collectible vehicles based on condition, authenticity, desirability, and market value. • Research and document vehicle provenance, including ownership history, production data, and historical significance. • Explain key considerations related to vehicle titling, registration, insurance, and asset protection. • Apply best practices for the storage, handling, and preservation of classic and antique vehicles. • Demonstrate foundational knowledge of vintage fuel, ignition, mechanical, and electrical systems. • Perform basic detailing and preservation techniques for vehicle interiors, exteriors, and finishes. • Develop maintenance schedules and identify appropriate parts suppliers, products, and service resources. • Assess restoration and modification decisions based on their potential impact on vehicle value and authenticity. • Identify effective strategies for displaying, marketing, and selling collectible vehicles.
