The president of the Waubonsee Community College Foundation Board of Directors has retired after 21 years of service on the board.

Penelope “Penny” Cameron served on the board since 1999. In 2004 she began serving as the board’s vice president and was elected president in 2005.

Cameron has been an outstanding advocate in support of the Foundation and has been exemplary in her personal commitment to building scholarship resources for students. She was named the college’s Distinguished Contributor in 2011 and was recognized for her service at the meeting of the college’s board of trustees on Sept. 16.

“The dollars raised by the Foundation can make all the difference in a student’s ability to complete their education,” said Cameron.

In addition to her service at Waubonsee, Cameron has been active in the community by serving on the board of several organizations, including Family Counseling Services. She is also a life member of the American Association of University Women and Northern Illinois Girl Scouts. She was elected and served 24 years on the Kane County Board and the Kane County Forest Preserve Board. While on those boards, she was elected President of the Women Officials in National Association of Counties.

Cameron’s long service and many contributions are greatly appreciated by the college and the many students who have benefited from her service and contributions.
