ELA Program Information

English Language Acquisition (ELA) is a language program designed for adults, 16 years and older, whose native language is not English. The ELA program helps students improve reading, writing, speaking and listening skills from literacy to the advanced level. Students improve English skills while also learning about U.S. culture. There is no tuition fee for these classes.

Before entry into the program, a student must obtain an English skills assessment for accurate placement. Placement testing is done weekly throughout most of the year.

ELA classes meet in the mornings from 9 a.m. - Noon or in the evenings from 6 - 9 p.m. Classes begin four times per year, in August, October, January and March. Classes are held at the Aurora Downtown Campus and at various other locations in the community.

Upon successful completion of the ELA program, students participate in a ceremony and receive a certificate of achievement.
