Paralegals play an integral role in assisting lawyers and their clients with a variety of tasks including conducting research and preparing legal documents for hearings or trials to being involved in courts, law firms and government agencies. Our program immerses you in classroom discussions and case studies to enable you to master core skills and terminology.
Both the AAS and certificate in Paralegal studies prepare our graduates to work in a variety of areas associated with the legal profession. Students will gain valuable training and be prepared for employment in this growing field.
Studying Paralegal at Waubonsee
Our Paralegal Program utilizes a blend of classroom and online learning to mesh with busy schedules. Internship opportunities provide hands-on experience. Instructors are professionals with extensive experience working in the field. The A.A.S. degree is a comprehensive 60 credit-hour program, while the certificate program is designed for students who have already earned an associate or bachelor’s degree and want to enter the field.
Working as a Paralegal
Paralegals can also work as legal assistants and court administration assistants, and are employed at law firms, corporations, real estate companies, federal and state agencies, nonprofit organizations and the banking industry. Salaries range from $20.34 to $35.41 per hour. Over the past 5 years, there has been a 9.6% increase in jobs in Waubonsee’s district.
