This course is an overview of the paralegal field and assists students to become familiar with aspects of the legal system. Topics include the functions of law, courts and lawyers in modern society, practice areas within the law, and sources of law. The Professional responsibilities of the lawyer and the training and role of a paralegal will also be covered.

"A blend of face-to-face class meetings in a traditional classroom and asynchronously online. Required face-to-face class meetings are: Thursdays 6:30 p.m. - 9:15 p.m. Scheduled on campus days: 08/22, 09/05, 09/19, 10/03, 10/17, 10/31, 11/14, 12/05. Students can register for both courses that are scheduled at the same day and time as they meet face-to-face on opposite weeks. This course is utilizing Open Educational Resources (OER). No textbook purchase is required and there will be no cost for course materials."
