This course introduces students to the knowledge and reference sources needed to navigate complex ethical issues that may arise in the law office. Students will learn to: identify the unauthorized practice of law; apply the American Bar Association's Rules of Professional Conduct; interpret disciplinary procedures and understand malpractice; use the Attorney Registration & Disciplinary Commission's Client Trust Account Handbook to ensure the use of ethical billing practices; and assess actions that can lead to confidentiality breaches and conflicts of interest. Through interactive activities, students will learn to apply ethical principles and legal professional standards to real-world scenarios.. Prereq, PLG110 or concurrent enrollment

A blend of face-to-face class meetings in a traditional classroom and online. Required face-to-face class meetings are: Tuesday from 6:30 - 9:15 pm. Scheduled on campus days: 08/18, 09/01, 09/15, 09/29, 10/13, 10/27, 11/10, 12/01. This course uses Open Educational Resources (OER) instead of traditional textbooks, so there is no cost for course materials.
