This hands-on course is designed for individuals who want to better understand and care for their vehicles. Participants will learn the fundamentals of proper automotive maintenance to improve vehicle longevity and on-road safety. Topics include an overview of key vehicle systems, routine maintenance practices, recognizing early warning signs of common issues, and performing light maintenance repairs. No prior automotive experience is required, just an interest in learning how to keep your vehicle running smoothly and safely. Learning Outcomes By the end of this course, participants will be able to: 1. Identify the major systems of an automobile (engine, transmission, braking, and suspension) and describe their basic functions. 2. Explain the importance of routine maintenance aiding in reliability, longevity, and ride quality. 3. Perform basic maintenance service, including fluid exchanges, general inspections, and wheel and tire service. 4. Recognize common warning signs of mechanical issues and know when to seek professional service. 5. Apply best practices for maintaining detailed vehicle service records and understanding owner’s manual recommendations. 6. Practice safety procedures for working around vehicles, using tools properly, and maintaining a safe workspace. Additional Info 1. Class will be physical in nature. Participants must be able to get up and down off the ground and be able to lift the weight of a wheel and tire (20-40 pounds) 2. Class must have safety glasses, closed toed shoes, and clothes that can get dirty.
