On May 22, 2026, Waubonsee Community College student Justin Winters, of Oswego, received a Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s (SIU) 2026 Provost Scholarship. Winters was selected as a standout student among 30 community colleges nationally.

Waubonsee Community College is inviting local residents, employers, volunteers, civic leaders, and community organizations to help shape the future of the region by participating in its upcoming Summer Community Connections Workshop series. A complimentary lunch will be provided for attendees.

Waubonsee Community College is pleased to announce a series of affordable summer youth camps designed to help area students build skills, spark curiosity, and stay active. Offered in partnership with the Sugar Grove Park District and featuring instruction from Waubonsee’s faculty and staff, this year’s summer schedule provides a welcoming environment for multiple age groups and interests.

Waubonsee is opening the doors of its massive, new automotive facilities to the public this summer, launching a series of noncredit vehicle maintenance courses. Designed for everyday drivers and hobbyists, these hands-on courses offer a rare opportunity for community members to learn in a state-of-the-art facility.

On May 13, 2026, National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Professional Racer and team owner Steve Johnson traveled to Waubonsee Community College to present his 2026 Be A Technician (BAT-man) Scholarships to students enrolled in Waubonsee’s Automotive Service Technology Program. The BAT-man Scholarship is a national program made possible by the support of partners like Peak Automotive, Snap-on Tools, Wings and Warriors and ASE Education Foundation, who understand the value of using motorsports to promote skilled trades. Waubonsee students were selected out of 25 colleges across the United States.

Waubonsee Community College will celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2026 with commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 16, at the college’s Sugar Grove Campus Field House. Ceremonies will take place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and tickets are required.

Twenty-eight Waubonsee Community College students competed at the SkillsUSA Illinois 2026 State Championships, held April 23-25, 2026, in Peoria. Fourteen of these individuals earned top-tier recognition for their technical skills and leadership, earning the opportunity to compete at the National Leadership & Skills Conference this June in Atlanta, GA.

The Kararo Family is a local homeschooling family that leverages Waubonsee Community College’s dual credit program to get a head start on college. Collectively, the family has obtained over 250 college credits over more than a decade.

The Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees seated Daniela Alfano to serve as the student trustee for the 2026–2027 academic year.
