Waubonsee Community College invites industry professionals from high-demand technical fields to explore a rewarding second career in higher education during its upcoming From Industry to Instructor Workshop on Tuesday, October 27, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. This free session will take place in Room 232 inside Waubonsee's 100,000-square-foot Technical Education Center on the Sugar Grove Campus.
“Through this event, we hope to encourage experienced industry professionals to consider sharing their knowledge and expertise with the next generation of skilled workers,” said Renee Skrabacz, Dean for Industry and Technology. “Many professionals may have never considered teaching because they assume they need a background in education. We want them to know that prior teaching experience is not required and that teaching just one class a week as an adjunct instructor can make a meaningful difference in students' lives.”
Waubonsee is actively hiring knowledgeable practitioners to teach one class per week across several high-demand technical fields, including Automation Technology, Automotive Service Technology, CAD, Engineering, HVAC, Industrial Maintenance, Machine Tool Technology, and Welding. No previous teaching experience is required.
Designed to be a two-hour, no-pressure environment, the free event offers a behind-the-scenes look at adjunct teaching opportunities within Waubonsee’s Industry and Technology division. Attendees will hear directly from current adjunct faculty, discover practical teaching strategies, learn about the comprehensive support Waubonsee provides to industry experts transitioning into the classroom, and connect with peers eager to share their knowledge.
Your real-world experience can help prepare the next generation of skilled professionals. Whether you are considering a career pivot or curious about teaching, your real-world experience can help shape the workforce of tomorrow.
