Nine students at Waubonsee Community College have been named recipients of the Gene Haas Foundation Scholarship, receiving a combined $8,500 in scholarship funding to support their educational and career goals. This award directly assists students as they prepare for high-tech careers in Computerized Numeric Control (CNC) machining. The recognized students are:

  • Aren Bucio of Aurora
  • Misery Pelkowski of Chicago
  • Jesus Perez, Jr. of Aurora
  • Sean Quach of North Aurora
  • Aaron Rittgarn of Elburn
  • Dylan Rompf of Somonauk
  • Adam Sisson of Aurora
  • Christi Smith of Elgin
  • Juan Valerio of Aurora

Waubonsee’s Machine Tool Technology Program offers extensive training in machine skills that prepare students for swift entry into the region’s workforce. Accredited by the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS), the program offers a curriculum designed to meet the highest industry standards.

Students gain hands-on experience with the latest equipment used in the field, including Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) Machines and high-tech manual equipment, such as the WEBB manual knee mills, WEBB manual lathes, along with instruction from faculty with industry experience and credentials.

The Gene Haas Foundation’s mission is to close the skills gap by introducing students to the rewarding field of CNC machining. In 2024, the Foundation distributed over $32 million in grants, bringing its total contributions to more than $225 million.
