This hands-on, noncredit course introduces paramedic students to the interpersonal, intrapersonal, and professional skills needed in the healthcare setting. Designed for individuals as a self-paced course, it prepares the student to enter the Paramedic Program. This training provides foundational knowledge and practical skills needed in today’s healthcare environments. By the end of this course, students will be able to: * Apply their working knowledge of the safety/well-being of the EMT; * Apply scene information and patient assessment findings (scene size up, primary and secondary assessment, patient history and reassessment) to form appropriate treatment progressions in the many types of patient populations; * Demonstrate Communication with other health care professionals to include cohesive and organized patient hand-off, recording patient findings, and integrate principles of medical documentation and report writing; * Apply knowledge of the anatomy and function of all human systems to the practice of EMS; * Apply knowledge of the causes, pathophysiology and management of shock, respiratory failure or arrest, cardiac arrest, termination of resuscitative efforts and post resuscitation management; * Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology to patient assessment and management to assure a patent airway, adequate mechanical ventilation and respiration for patients.
