Waubonsee Debuts Free Shuttle Bus Connecting Sugar Grove and Aurora Downtown Campuses

As the spring semester kicks off, Waubonsee Community College is removing barriers for students with the launch of a new, free shuttle bus service. Starting January 20, 2026, the first day of the college’s spring semester, students can travel seamlessly between the Sugar Grove and Aurora Downtown Campuses at no cost.

To celebrate the launch, ribbon cutting ceremonies were held at both campuses. Waubonsee President Dr. Brian Knetl and Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff Dr. Toya Webb were joined by Waubonsee board members, local elected officials, members of the Sugar Grove Chamber of Commerce, members of the Aurora Regional Economic Alliance, along with Waubonsee staff and faculty.

In a recent survey, more than one-third of Waubonsee students said they lack a reliable mode of transportation.

“As part of our RISE 2030 strategic goals, we are working to strengthen the student experience,” said Dr. Knetl. “And that means working to remove barriers both inside and outside the classroom and helping to meet students’ basic needs.”

The shuttle service, available Monday through Thursday, is designed for ease of use. Students simply need to present their XCARD to board. These identification cards are available at the Sugar Grove and Aurora Downtown Campuses.

Starting this semester, the free shuttle will allow students to more easily access programs and services at either campus.
