Waubonsee Community College will host an open house on Thursday, Nov. 6, in celebration of National STEM Week. This free event is open to the community and will be held in the Auditorium on the Sugar Grove Campus, located at Route 47 and Waubonsee Drive.

The evening will feature a keynote presentation, “Powered by Possibility: Engineering a Future for Myself and My Community,” beginning at 7 p.m. The speaker is Diana Iracheta, a proud Waubonsee alumna and successful mechanical engineer. Iracheta, a first-generation Latina, discovered that engineering was far more than just a career path; it was a gateway to opportunity, growth, and purpose. She has since dedicated her work to being a STEM advocate and creating spaces where Latinas in the field can thrive. Attendees will hear Iracheta share how the possibilities in engineering completely transformed her life and how she is actively working to pass that power on to others in her community.

Prior to the keynote, attendees will have the opportunity to meet Waubonsee's expert faculty from various STEM disciplines. The event will also feature light refreshments, engaging displays, and hands-on activities.

National STEM Week is celebrated every year in November with the goal of encouraging children, young adults, prospective students and interested community members to explore their interests and consider careers in these critical technical fields. Waubonsee’s open house provides a foundational, local opportunity for individuals to see themselves in a STEM career.
