The path for Waubonsee Community College students looking to transfer to Governors State University was made a little smoother yesterday. At a Feb. 3 ceremony, Waubonsee Community College President Dr. Christine Sobek and Governors State University President Dr. Elaine P. Maimon signed a dual degree agreement, making Waubonsee the 11th area community college to join GSU’s Dual Degree Program.
"Partnerships like these provide wonderful opportunities for our students," said Dr. Sobek. "Not only do they motivate students to complete an associate degree, they also make a bachelor's degree more accessible. GSU's Naperville Education Center is a convenient option for many students in our district, and the university's competitive tuition rate makes a four-year degree affordable."
The dual degree agreement guarantees that participating Waubonsee students, after earning their associate degree in two years, will be able to complete a bachelor’s degree at GSU with some significant benefits. Their GSU tuition will be fixed at the rate in effect when they begin their freshman studies at Waubonsee. They will be eligible to compete for the debt-free education offered by the GSU Promise Scholarship, while also receiving the guidance and services of both institutions during their studies.
In addition, Waubonsee and Governors State are working on an RN to BSN agreement that would allow Waubonsee’s nursing graduates to complete their bachelor’s degrees online through GSU.
All full-time students who have completed 12 to 45 credit hours and are in good academic standing at one of GSU’s partner community colleges are eligible to apply for the Dual Degree Program.
