Waubonsee Community College announces its 2019 Outstanding Faculty Member.

Dr. Jeanne McDonald, Professor of English, has served as a full-time English professor at Waubonsee since 2001. She was granted tenure in 2004. She also taught at Waubonsee from 1993 until 1996 as an adjunct instructor and as a temporary full-time instructor. Her teaching includes composition and literature courses. McDonald earned a bachelor’s degree from Lincoln Christian University, a master’s degree in philosophy from Lincoln Christian Seminary, a master’s degree in English from Western Illinois University and a doctorate degree in English Studies from Illinois State University.

“I truly believe in the community college mission and open door policy. We provide pathways into higher education, career opportunities, and a lifetime of learning, and I'm so honored to be a part of helping students realize their futures,” said McDonald.

In addition to teaching, McDonald has served on many cross-functional college committees and task forces. She has also advised student clubs and for the last two years she has served as a faculty liaison for student learning outcomes assessment.

Professionally, McDonald has given presentations at local, state and national conferences on topics ranging from assessment, to teaching strategies, to writing, to American literature and slavery. She has also had articles published in the Journal of the Illinois State Historical Society and is working on a book about the Illinois antislavery movement.

“She [McDonald] has distinguished herself in all three categories used to select the Outstanding Faculty Member: instructional effectiveness, contributions to the college, and commitment to ongoing professional development,” said Dr. Diane Nyhammer, Vice President of Educational Affairs.

McDonald will be recognized and presented the Outstanding Faculty Member Award at a faculty event later this year.

The Outstanding Faculty Member Award is presented to a full-time faculty member who has distinguished him or herself. The final selection is made by the college’s Outstanding Faculty Member Selection Committee, which is comprised of previous recipients of the award, instructional deans, the Assistant Vice President of Workforce Education and Training, and the Dean for Student Success and Retention. The committee is chaired by the Vice President of Educational Affairs.
