The Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees approved the merger of the Campus Operations and the Emergency Management and Safety Departments at its regularly scheduled meeting on June 20.
The name of the new department is Campus Safety and Operations Department. The administrative management of the new department will be consolidated under the Executive Director of Campus Safety and Operations.
Dan Larsen was approved for appointment to the new position of Executive Director of Campus Safety and Operations. Larsen has served as the Director of Campus Operations since November 2014 and served as the Buildings and Grounds Manager from January 2011 to November 2014.
Larsen holds an MBA degree in Operations Management from Loyola University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreational Resources Management from the University of Montana. He also holds professional licenses for National Incident Management Systems, as a certified instructor for Occupational Safety and Health Administration and for Hazardous-Materials certified waste generator compliance.
This consolidation does not result in the elimination of any existing staff positions. The administrative position of Director of Emergency Management and Safety had been vacant since May 15 due to the retirement of the incumbent. A review was undertaken to determine how the two existing departments could be effectively combined without diminishing service levels.
The merger was effective on June 21.
