This course introduces students to the criminal law process with an emphasis on the role of the paralegal. The criminal law process from arrest through trial will be examined for common crimes in Illinois. Statutes and cases will be applied to criminal law fact patterns to produce pattern jury instructions and a motion to quash.

A blend of face-to-face class meetings in a traditional classroom and asynchronously online. Required face-to-face class meetings are: Tuesdays 6:30 p.m. - 9:15 p.m. Scheduled on campus days: 01/16, 01/30, 02/13, 02/27, 03/19, 04/02, 04/16, 04/30. Students can register for both courses that are scheduled at the same day and time as they meet face-to-face on opposite weeks. This course is utilizing Open Educational Resources (OER). No textbook purchase is required and there will be no cost for course materials.
