This course provides students with an opportunity to reach 30 (thirty) successful venipunctures and 10 (ten) dermal punctures required for eligibility to take the National Healthcareer Association Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam. Venipunctures and dermal punctures completed in PBT105 count towards these minimums. Review of core knowledge, skills and principles for an entry level phlebotomy technician are included along with certification practice. Course Requirements: Completed PBT105 in the last 12 months with a “C” or higher and instructor recommendation; American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers; medical clearance; negative TB test; proof of current immunization status, criminal background check and a negative ten panel drug screen. Students are recommended to check that their requirements are still up to date in Viewpoint. Those completed as part of enrollment into PBT105 are good for 12 months. Upon successful completion of this course, the student will have: 1. Performed a minimum of 30 successful unaided venipunctures. 2. Performed a minimum of 10 unaided dermal punctures 3. Participated as a team member within the healthcare delivery system 4. Determined which collection method is most appropriate based on the patient’s condition and specimen requirements 5. Demonstrated laboratory safety techniques and follow standard precautions when collecting, processing, and performing laboratory testing on specimens 6. Reviewed and prepared for the NHA Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam
