Waubonsee inducted four new members into its Athletic Hall of Fame during the college’s annual Athletic Banquet on May 7 — Omi Acosta, Scott Walter Kawall, Dr. Tara (Tormey) Parks and Alex Rodriguez. 

My career at Waubonsee really kick-started my journey of self-discovery. My first year at the college, I was a very shy and quiet person. But since that time, I have overcome this obstacle by branching out, becoming involved in different clubs, and having great role models, all of which has helped me discover new things about myself and my interests. The faculty and staff here saw in me a leader and a public speaker that I didn't see in myself. Waubonsee's motto is “Where Futures Take Shape.” Reflecting back, I now see that Waubonsee gave me powerful tools to cultivate my future and has helped me build the life I am proud to live.

Malcolm X said, “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” This bit of advice seems especially appropriate this time of year, as millions of high school and college students graduate and head off in new directions, looking to access brighter futures.

Waubonsee Community College's Ceramics Program has a great story of growth and development through the years. Doug Jeppesen, Associate Professor of Art/Ceramics, told that story in an article published this spring in the journal of The Studio Potter.

Waubonsee Community College students Daniel Noll, of Hinckley, and Brian Moran, of Sandwich, have been awarded spots on the Phi Theta Kappa Illinois All-Academic Team, recognizing the top community college students in Illinois.
