The 2025 graduating cohort of Waubonsee Community College’s Health Information Technology (HIT) program has achieved a 100% first-time pass rate on the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) national certification exam. This milestone places Waubonsee graduates at the forefront of the regional healthcare workforce.

"We are very proud of our students’ performance on the RHIT exam," said Patricia Saccone, Program Director and Professor of Health Information Technology. "This accomplishment reflects the incredible dedication of our students and the unwavering support of our faculty, who work tirelessly to ensure our graduates are fully prepared to excel in the healthcare industry."

Waubonsee's HIT program serves as a talent pipeline for regional health networks like Endeavor Health, a system representing nine hospitals across Chicagoland. Among those driving that connection is Jessica Ramirez, Health Information Management (HIM) Supervisor at Endeavor Health, who is a graduate of the HIT program.

“I chose Waubonsee because of its excellent reputation for providing quality education at an affordable price,” said Ramirez. “Waubonsee’s HIT program provided me with a strong foundation in health information management and thoroughly prepared me for the RHIT certification exam.”

Ramirez, who is from Plano, says Waubonsee’s HIT program offers flexibility and affordability that competitive programs cannot match. It allowed her to complete the coursework and gain practical experience in real clinical settings, while continuing to work full-time and build her career. She also leveraged Endeavor Health’s tuition reimbursement program, which provides education benefits to employees interested in earning a professional credential from an accredited institution like Waubonsee.

Now an active member of Waubonsee’s HIT Advisory Board, Ramirez is giving back to the program that launched her career. “As a graduate and now an HIM professional, having the opportunity to provide feedback on the curriculum and mentor current Waubonsee students is extraordinary,” Ramirez said. “Seeing the program's 100% pass rate reflects the faculty's dedication and the hard work of the students. For anyone interested in the field, this program provides the perfect launchpad—if you put in the effort, it opens doors to endless opportunities.”

Waubonsee’s HIT program is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM), with accreditation reaffirmed through 2030. Driven by the increased adoption of electronic health records, the expansion of telemedicine, and strict data privacy regulations, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects employment for health information technologists and medical registrars to grow 16% from 2025 to 2035, much faster than the average for all occupations.
