In celebration of MLK Day

Waubonsee Community College is excited to recognize rising stars in our community through the RISE to the Dream Award, honoring students who reflect the values and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Nominees should be students who embody the spirit and legacy of Dr. King

by demonstrating one or more of the following qualities: 

  • Leadership rooted in integrity and compassion
  • Commitment to service within their school and/or broader community
  • Courage to speak up or take action when they see a need, challenge, or injustices
  • Dedication to building unity and fostering belonging among peers
  • Striving for excellence in academics
  • Demonstrating respect, kindness, and empathy

This recognition is open to students in grades K–12 who are nominated by school staff.

Waubonsee will recognize two elementary students, two junior high students, and four high school students as this year’s award recipients.
Student winners will receive an award and be honored during the MLK Program at Waubonsee Community College on Thursday, January 29, from 6–8 p.m. on the Sugar Grove campus. 
Nominations are accepted until January 16. Winners will be notified the week of January 19.
