Waubonsee Community College is pleased to announce that the Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI), an official affiliate of the Road Scholar program, is the recipient of the 2025 Distinguished Contributor Award. This award recognizes individuals or groups who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to advancing the college and its mission.
“LLI has been a mainstay at the college for decades,” said Dr. Melinda Tejada, Vice President of Community Engagement and Executive Director of the Foundation. “The last few years have been amazing in terms of supporting the college in dollars for scholarships as well as seeking opportunities to engage with our students and faculty.”
LLI has provided substantial support to the college, highlighted by a major financial commitment this year. LLI endowed a $25,000 scholarship through the Waubonsee Community College Foundation, helping students achieve their educational goals. Beyond this funding, LLI’s dedication to collaborative engagement is continually demonstrated as members actively participate in various college events organized by faculty and students.
LLI is an open, volunteer-led membership organization dedicated to adults aged 50 and above who are actively engaged in the lifelong pursuit of knowledge and community. As an official affiliate of the Road Scholar program, LLI provides a robust offering of intellectual and social enrichment. Its programming spans a wide array of courses each academic term, complemented by numerous social opportunities, including specialized Special Interest Groups and travel opportunities.
“I sometimes think of LLI as a one-stop shop,” said LLI member Gary Krueger. “It gives me the opportunity to take high-quality, didactic classes, but also to socialize and engage in different opportunities where I get to meet all of the very interesting and diverse people in LLI. The facilitators really put a lot of work into it, and what I am so impressed by is the quality of the classes.”
LLI’s spring courses will open for registration on January 12, 2026. The term will feature over 30 courses, special interest groups, day trips, and international trips. Visit waubonsee.edu/LLI to browse courses.
