Inside Technical Education Center (TEC) Students taking a tour

Waubonsee Community College is proud to celebrate the grand opening of its state-of-the-art 100,000-square-foot Technical Education Center (TEC) on Friday, Sept. 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Sugar Grove Campus. The evening will include a Cruise Night on the south end of campus. All are welcome.

The largest building on the Sugar Grove Campus, the TEC houses premier programs in Automotive Collision and Refinishing Technology, Automotive Service Technology, and Welding Technology to meet growing demand in diesel technology, electric vehicles, welding fabrication, and robotic welding.

“The anticipation is over. Now, we begin a bold new era in technical education,” said Waubonsee President Dr. Brian Knetl. “With this facility, we will prepare our students to become highly skilled employees who will meet the needs of employers and strengthen the regional workforce.”

This building’s opening is a tangible sign of Waubonsee’s investment in academic innovation - one of the pillars of the college’s RISE 2030 strategic plan, led by Dr. Toya Web, Vice President of Strategy and Chief of Staff. The plan focuses on four overarching priorities: Redefining our Relationship with the Community, Investing in Academic Innovation, Strengthening the Student Experience, and Enriching the Employee Experience. Guided by input from students, employees, and community partners, RISE 2030 reflects the evolving needs of higher education and the communities Waubonsee proudly serves.
