Waubonsee Community College hosted its inaugural Legislative Roundtable on December 8 at the college’s Sugar Grove Campus, securing high-level support from state and federal policymakers. The event, held in the state-of-the-art Technical Education Center (TEC), centered on strengthening the partnership between government and education to rapidly deliver a highly skilled, high-wage workforce for Illinois.
The consensus among legislators regarding Waubonsee’s critical role to drive the workforce forward was clear as bipartisan attendance included Congressman Bill Foster, State Senators Donald DeWitte, Linda Holmes, and Karina Villa, and State Representatives Matt Hanson, Barbara Hernandez, Jeff Keicher, Dan Ugaste, and Maddie Mattson from Representative Jed Davis’ office.
Legislators were welcomed by Board of Trustees Vice Chair Patrick Kelsey, Trustees Daniel Jaquez, Tina Willson, and Rick Guzman, along with President Dr. Brian Knetl, and Chief of Staff and Vice President of Strategy Dr. Toya Webb. College leadership provided key updates on initiatives and partnership opportunities while gaining invaluable insights from the legislative updates on issues impacting higher education.
By welcoming legislators directly into the TEC, Waubonsee demonstrated its dedication to helping students succeed and communities thrive. The TEC is a visible demonstration of the college’s RISE 2030 strategic plan, by offering students access to advanced, industry-standard equipment that prepares them for the emerging demands of technology and industry.
