Lady Chiefs win Region IV title for first time, advance to NJCAA Division II National Tournament

(Grayslake, Ill.)--- Unranked Waubonsee Communty College downed 20th-ranked Kankakee Community College on Nov. 8 to advance to the NJCAA Division II Women's Volleyball National Tournament for the first time in school history. The Lady Chiefs (35-14) secured the Region IV Division II District B title by knocking off the Cavaliers in four games. Waubonsee began the day by sweeping past Kankakee in three straight games, before falling to their nemesis this season Sauk Valley Community College. The top-seeded Skyhawks (36-6) beat the Lady Chiefs for the second time this season, taking four close games to capture the Distict A title. Meanwhile, Kankakee (35-16) defeated Black Hawk East College (30-15) to stay alive and move into a second meeting with the Lady Chiefs. Waubonsee once again turned back the Cavaliers, winning in four games to capture the District B crown for the first time ever. The victory also gave head coach Steve Kish's crew 35 wins on the season, tying the school record for wins in a season, which was set in 1994 and equaled by last year's team as well.

One of the final 16 teams in the country, the Lady Chiefs will make the program's first ever appearance at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament as the 13th seed. Waubonsee will face the 4th seed Pasco-Hernando (FL) State College (35-8) at 3 p.m. (MDT) on Nov. 20 in Phoenix, Arizona.
