WCC's Brown bats .593, named national juco softball player of the week

Waubonsee Community College’s MacKenzie Brown was named the NJCAA’s Division II Softball Player of the Week for the last week of the season. Brown helped lead Waubonsee (41-25) to the Region IV Championship game, which the Lady Chiefs lost 5-4 to Sauk Valley Community College. 

Brown, a sophomore catcher from Plano High School, batted .593 for the week (16 of 27) with six runs batted in, six stolen bases, eight runs scored and an on-base percentage of .621. Brown caught every inning of all seven playoff games, playing errorless behind the plate en route to being named to the Region IV All-Tournament team.

For the season, the Lady Chiefs’ number two hitter batted .459 (79 for 172) with 28 runs batted in, 18 stolen bases, an on-base percentage of .495 and a .506 slugging percentage. Handling a majority of the catching duties over the 66 games Waubonsee played, Brown registered a .950 fielding percentage. She was selected to the All-Region First Team and the All-Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference First Team after helping lead the Lady Chiefs’ to their fifth straight conference title.
