Seven Waubonsee Community College students gained a taste of lawmaking in action when they participated in this year’s Model Illinois Government simulations in Springfield, Feb. 26-March 1.

Students chose their roles, then debated and voted on various proposed laws, as they experienced the process of enacting legislation in Illinois’ State Capitol.

More than 300 students from 28 colleges and universities participated in the exercises.

Delegates participating from Waubonsee included Tyler Carter, Joseph Runkle and Oklin Lara, each of Yorkville; Jesse Garner and Reginald Van Julun, of Aurora; Carsten Wieske, of Batavia; and Daniel Noll, of Hinckley.

Waubonsee students have participated in Model Illinois Government simulations for more than three decades, said Richard J. Kiefer, Associate Professor of Political Science and History at Waubonsee and faculty advisor to the Waubonsee Model Illinois Government group.
