Conor Snedeker, of Hinckley, has been named a 2018 Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar. He will receive a $1,250 scholarship.

Snedeker was home-schooled in high school and earned his GED in May 2015 while he was taking courses at Waubonsee for college credit. He earned an associate degree in psychology in May 2017 and is taking additional classes at Waubonsee now before he transfers this fall. He has been accepted at DePaul University and at Elmhurst College. He plans to study philosophy and mathematics when he transfers.

While at Waubonsee, Snedeker has had the opportunity to fulfill his desire to learn the most challenging things possible. He knows from experience that the education at a community college is at least as good as at a 4-year college.

“Go and talk to professors and do a little research. As long as you are adventurous, you will find people who will push you.”

Snedeker has developed several friendships with instructors at Waubonsee. He appreciates the fact that several of his professors at Waubonsee have graduate degrees from Ivy League universities. It is because of what those people have put into him that he wants to be a professor when he finishes college. He has found that access to instructors is a highlight at Waubonsee.

“Professors are willing to help. Students should take advantage of that. It may not be that way when you transfer [to a 4-year college].”

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation partners with Phi Theta Kappa to help deserving students reach their academic goals.
