Doug Jeppesen

Doug Jeppesen, Associate Professor of Art/Ceramics at Waubonsee Community College, addressed an international gathering of wood-fired ceramics artists earlier this month in Denmark, using the opportunity to lay more of the ground work for an upcoming international ceramics symposium to be held at Waubonsee in two years.

From Aug. 26 – Sept. 1, Jeppesen participated in the 2nd European Woodfire Conference, lecturing, as well as serving on an expert panel to discuss the past, present and future of wood-fired ceramic art.

The conference was hosted by the Guldagergaard International Ceramic Research Center in Skaelskor, Denmark, 70 miles southwest of Copenhagen.

Jeppesen was also selected to deliver the closing remarks to the gathering of about 125 artists, academics and others.

Jeppesen said he used his remarks to discuss the Wood Fire Symposium, planned for Oct. 6-8, 2016, at Waubonsee’s Sugar Grove Campus, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive. That event is scheduled to include presentations and works from about 25 visiting artists.

Jeppesen said the opportunity to address the gathering in Denmark was “a pretty big honor.”

“This is a pretty important event, and to be invited to speak was a nice opportunity,” Jeppesen said.
