Honor Asian American and Pacific Islander History

Sugar Grove – Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is observed from May 1 through May 31. This month is dedicated to honoring and celebrating the many contributions and accomplishments of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans throughout history. Waubonsee Community College will be celebrating this important month before the end of the spring semester. All events are free and open to the public.

· “Navigating Identities: A Deep Dive into Asian American Student Experiences”: Join us for a virtual discussion that is perfect for those interested in professional development and cultural awareness as it promises to be an enlightening blend of learning and dialogue. Delve into the unique experiences of Asian Americans. Participants are encouraged to explore free content available through the Waubonsee online library prior to the Zoom discussion. This virtual discussion will take place on Wednesday, April 17 at 2 p.m.

· “Celebrate India”: Participants will explore the performing and visual arts of India. This cultural program will feature a variety of music, dance, and storytelling. The event will take place on Wednesday, April 24 at noon.

· “AAPI International Night”: Join the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) student club at Waubonsee for a cultural event featuring live singing and dancing performances. Attendees will get passports to collect stamps at tables, each representing a different Asian country – the more stamps guests collect, the more raffle tickets they’ll earn for a chance to win exciting prizes. This event will take place on Friday, April 26 at 4 p.m.
