Cecilia Vargas, Art Coordinator at Waubonsee Community College, has written a catalog essay for a photographic art exhibition on display at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis.

Titled Clique: Trisha Holt, Dina Kelberman and Jordan Tate, the exhibition features a select group of photographers known for their efforts to expand “the photographic medium beyond the traditional static image.”

Vargas was invited to write the catalog essay by exhibition co-curator and artist Ryan Peter Miller, Assistant Visiting Professor at Carthage College. Marco Rosichelli, Visiting Professor of Sculpture at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash., also serves a curator for the exhibit.

Vargas’ essay discusses photography as a fine art medium and its continued relevance in the 21st Century, as well as how each artist expresses themselves through their works, while challenging viewers to engage and think critically.

The exhibition will be on display in the H.F. Johnson Gallery of Art at Carthage College from Jan. 6 – March 8, 2015.
