Waubonsee Community College announces its 2020 Distinguished Contributor and Distinguished Alumnus. Mr. Angelo Kleronomos is this year’s Distinguished Contributor. Ms. Mary Ellen Thielemann is this year’s Distinguished Alumnus.

Kleronomos has been a member of the Waubonsee Community College Foundation Board for more than 16 years. During this time, he has co-chaired the Revenue Generating Committee for 15 years. He played a key role in several fundraising campaigns for the college, including the Manufacturing Campaign that exceeded its goal of $250,000 by raising $273,600. In addition, Kleronomos has created three endowed scholarships that will continue at Waubonsee in perpetuity.

Thielemann graduated from Waubonsee in 1998 with an Associate of Science Degree. She has worked in a managing role in the banking industry for more than 35 years. She led the merger of two locations of US Bank and Park National Bank. In doing this, Thielemann worked with clients and staff to achieve a successful transition to a new banking culture, as well as new product offerings.

Thielemann has served on the Board of Directors for the Glenwood School for Boys and Girls and for the Geneva Women in Business and Community Contacts. She is one of three founders of The Geneva Concourse NFP and is the Immediate Past President of the Geneva Lions Club. She also serves on the Board of Directors with the Greater Illinois Class Car Club of America. As a demonstration of her continued service to Waubonsee, Thielemann served as a judge for the John J. Swalec President’s Achievement Award in 2019.

Kleronomos and Thielemann will be recognized and presented plaques at a future event. College events scheduled for this spring and summer have been canceled or postponed because of the coronavirus.

The Distinguished Contributor Award is presented each year to an individual or group who has made an outstanding contribution or given exemplary support to Waubonsee Community College. Nominees for the award are recognized as having made an extraordinary commitment to promoting the college and its mission.

The Distinguished Alumnus Award is presented each year to an outstanding graduate of Waubonsee Community College.
