Each year, Waubonsee Community College partners with Elmhurst University and North Central College to extend a full-tuition scholarship to an Honors Program Graduate. Through this collaboration, the colleges are extending full-tuition scholarships to Jack McGreevy and Lucie Jumonville. Both students will receive their scholarships in May and complete their bachelor’s degree programs at the partnering institution.

McGreevy, a music major who served as Waubonsee's 2023-2024 Student Trustee, has earned the opportunity to continue his academic journey at Elmhurst University. Jumonville will pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art at North Central College.

Describing this opportunity, McGreevy said, "It's a literal dream," as Elmhurst University was his first choice, where he will earn a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance.

"I feel privileged to have been part of a generation of great students at Waubonsee," he said. "I can't take any credit for the great work that has been done at the Honors Program, as it has been the faculty and staff here at Waubonsee, but it was super positive for Waubonsee to bring something like this in for us," said McGreevy.

As highlighted in a recent report by USA News, Honors colleges and programs often create a smaller community within a larger school setting, offering more individualized attention from faculty members, thereby enhancing the learning experience.

Waubonsee's Honors Program offers students a unique opportunity to develop critical, independent, and creative thinking skills, transforming their academic journey. Students can work individually with faculty members in any course to deepen their understanding of the course content and further their learning. At the end of the semester, they can showcase their projects at the Honors Fair. This year, the Waubonsee Honors Fair collaborated with local colleges to promote interaction between college representatives and celebrate the accomplishments of the Waubonsee Honors Program.

Dr. Kathleen Gorski, Dean for Learning Outcomes, Curriculum, and Program Development expressed that Waubonsee is excited to continue to expand their partnerships with surrounding colleges and universities.
