AACC Outstanding Alumni - Dr. Indigo

A Waubonsee Community College alumnus has been recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). Dr. Indigo Debra Triplett, a Waubonsee alumna and Waubonsee’s 2021 Distinguished Alumnus, was recognized as one of three 2022 Outstanding Alumni Award winners by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). Entrepreneur, consultant, and author, Dr. Indigo, was recognized May 3 during the Outstanding Alumni Celebration at AACC Annual in New York City.

A U.S. Marine veteran, Dr. Indigo possesses more than 20 years of experience successfully owning and operating businesses in the United States and Malaysia. Dr. Indigo graduated from Waubonsee in 1988 with an Associate of Arts degree. She continued her education, earning a bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree while working full-time. In 1997, Dr. Indigo founded Careers in Transition, Inc. and was recognized as a Top 500 Fastest-Growing Companies in America by Inc. Magazine in 2012 and 2013 and top 1,000 in 2014. 


As a nationally and internationally recognized speaker and author, Dr. Indigo has written three books and contributed to a weekly mental wellness column for Inc. Magazine. She recently owned and operated 4D Performance in Malaysia and has been featured as a wellness expert in seminars, keynote addresses, and radio interviews. 

Dr. Indigo has been featured on Fox News, New York Times, Huffington Post, FEMINA, and many other media outlets. Ebony Magazine referred to her as "The $18 Million Dollar Woman." Dr. Indigo presents the strength and perseverance of many community college students who persist in their education while working and raising a family. 

Each year, AACC recognizes community college alumni who have excelled in their chosen fields.  The Outstanding Alumni Award is given to recipients who exemplify a community college's ability to change lives.
