President and CEO of AACC to Speak at Waubonsee Graduation
President and CEO of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Dr. Walter Bumphus will speak at Waubonsee Community College’s graduation ceremony on Thursday, May 17.
Prior to leading the AACC, Dr. Bumphus served as a professor in the Community College Leadership Program and as chair of the Department of Educational Administration at the University of Texas at Austin for four years.
During his career in higher education, Dr. Bumphus has also served as president of two community college districts. He was president of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) from 2001 to 2007, with the LCTCS later conferring upon him the title of President Emeritus. Earlier in his career, he headed up Brookhaven College in the Dallas County Community College District.
Dr. Bumphus holds a bachelor’s degree in speech communications and a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from Murray State University, as well as a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the Community College Leadership Program at the University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Bumphus is one of the few leaders in the field of education to receive the National CEO of the Year Award, to chair the AACC Board of Directors, and to receive the AACC National Leadership Award.
