Waubonsee Students Named to State Academic Team

Waubonsee Community College students Meredith Adamski and Chris Mortenson, both of Batavia, have been chosen to represent the college on the All-Illinois Academic Team. Sponsored by the Illinois Community College Board, the Illinois Council of Community College Presidents, and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the international honor society of two-year colleges, the academic team is comprised of students from each of the state’s community colleges, who are selected based on academic performance and service to their colleges and communities.

Adamski, who has a perfect 4.0 grade point average, has also been recognized as a Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Silver Scholar. As part of this honor, Adamski will receive a special medallion, a $1,250 scholarship and a listing in the April 23 issue of “USA Today.”

One of Waubonsee’s prestigious Gustafson Scholars, Adamski served as a student senator last year and was elected president of Student Senate this year. She has also participated as an officer in the photography club and earned induction into Phi Theta Kappa.

Mortenson is also active in student government, serving as a senator last year and as the college’s student trustee this year. His 3.4 cumulative grade point average also earned him induction into Phi Theta Kappa, and he serves as president of the college’s business club. In addition, he sits on the student ID committee and has been an active participant in the college’s Diversity Leadership Council.
