Library Program Receives National Accreditation
Waubonsee Community College’s Library Technical Assistant program recently received full accreditation from the American Library Association (ALA). Waubonsee is one of just eight community colleges in the nation to receive this distinction.
“Earning an associate degree or certificate that is ALA-accredited gives our students an edge in their job hunt,” said Mary Edith Butler, Waubonsee’s Dean for Communications and Library Services. “It is a way to demonstrate that their competencies are nationally recognized.”
Graduating from an ALA-accredited program such as Waubonsee’s ultimately saves students time and money. Unlike other candidates for ALA accreditation, Waubonsee graduates are not required to submit electronic portfolios to the organization to prove their skills, and they pay a discounted fee.
Started in 2009, Waubonsee’s Library Technical Assistant program offers both a 23-semester-hour certificate and 64-credit-hour associate degree. Several program courses are being offered this fall. Call (630) 466-7900, ext. 2852.
