Waubonsee To Present Free Concerts

Trumpeter Bruce Gates will appear as a special guest at Waubonsee Community College’s Jazz Band concert on Friday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Sugar Grove Campus Auditorium. A Waubonsee alumnus, Gates served as lead trumpeter for the United States Air Force’s “Airmen of Note” jazz band for more than 20 years.

During December, Waubonsee Community College will present four free concerts in the Auditorium of the college’s Sugar Grove Campus, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive. No advance tickets are required.

The Steel Band takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, while the Waubonsee Chorale will perform on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 3 p.m. with special guests, the Waubonsee Chamber Winds.

Trumpeter Bruce Gates is the featured artist at the Jazz Band show on Friday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. A graduate of Waubonsee and Western Illinois University, Gates was recruited by the United States Air Force and performed as the lead trumpeter for the exclusive “Airmen of Note” jazz band for more than 20 years. Since his retirement from the service, Gates has recorded several CDs with his band, the Jazz Consortium Big Band. He currently works as an artist/clinician for the Yamaha Music Instrument Corporation.

Finishing out the month of music is Waubonsee’s Rock Band, with its 7:30 p.m. show on Saturday, Dec. 10.
