Waubonsee Named a Military Friendly School
Waubonsee Community College was recently named a 2012 Military Friendly School by “G.I. Jobs,” the premier magazine for military personnel transitioning into civilian life. The magazine gives this designation to the top 20 percent of the nation’s colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace service members and veterans as students.
Waubonsee typically enrolls 400 military personnel and veterans each semester. In addition to individualized help from the college’s transfer/veterans advisor, these students also benefit from specialized financial aid counseling, the opportunity to earn credit for military training and peer support from members of the college’s veterans club. The college also has a policy in place to help those students called to active duty during their studies and hosts a special Veterans Day observance each year.
