Waubonsee Exhibits Works by Texas Photographer

“Age 13, Electrical Engineering,” a photograph by Lupita Murillo Tinnen, is part of “American DREAM,” an exhibit currently on display at Waubonsee Community College’s Sugar Grove Campus.

Waubonsee Community College is currently hosting “American DREAM,” an exhibit of photographs by Texas artist Lupita Murillo Tinnen, through Nov. 5 in the Dickson Center’s Arrowhead Room on the Sugar Grove Campus, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Born to Mexican immigrant parents in Texas, Murillo Tinnen was raised in the American culture but also in a culture of undocumented residents. Her work captures and explores these experiences and themes.   

Murillo Tinnen earned a bachelor’s degree in photography from Texas A&M University-Commerce and a master’s degree in photography from the University of North Texas. She currently works as a professor of photography at Collin College in Plano, Texas, and serves as a board member of the Texas Photographic Society.
